Chart types

This page is a quick reference to the chart types in Zinye Insights and what each one is best for. Pick the chart that matches the question, not the one that looks fanciest.

ChartBest for
NumberDisplaying one or more key metrics prominently (today’s sales, cash in bank)
BarComparing values across categories (sales by item, tickets by team)
RowComparing categories horizontally — a bar chart on its side, good when labels are long
LineShowing a trend over time (revenue by month)
DonutShowing parts of a whole (sales by region) — best with only a few slices
FunnelShowing stages in a process where the number drops at each step (leads → deals → won)
TableDisplaying detailed data in rows and columns, when the exact figures are the point
MapVisualising data geographically
  • One metric? → Number
  • Comparing things? → Bar (or Row if the labels are long)
  • Over time? → Line
  • Shares of a total? → Donut (keep it to a handful of slices)
  • A drop-off through stages? → Funnel
  • Need the exact numbers? → Table

Zinye Insights also suggests a chart for your data, so you’ve always got a sensible starting point — change it whenever a different type tells the story better.
